Silversmithing Classes are Back!
We managed to find a find a fabulous new silversmith instructor. Gerald Day is a local and knows a great deal about how to learn the most inexpensive way. He has told me stories of using an coffee can, some foil and an old skillet to do some fancy work...I might be exaggerating a bit but not by much. He most recently was teaching Silversmithing at IUPUI but we managed to talk him into teaching for us.
To get started, we are offering a ring with a stone setting or a pendant with a stone setting class. You will learn how to solder and bezel around a stone for a finished piece of jewelry for you to take home after class. Gerald has a large variety of stones to choose from (some of which he has cut and polished himself). Lapidary classes are available at Gerald's house with a limit of two students per class. Just call the store to set up a time and get more info. The equipment is just too much to transport down to the store.

Fancy Wire Ring
This ring is so amazing. It is a real head scratcher when you see it and try to figure out how it was put together. Jerry is a big hit with his classes and we are so happy to have him teaching at the store. He has 40 years of experience and 40 years of stories to tell in class. This project is made with square sterling silver wire and a stone cabochon. Jerry has a huge variety of stones to choose from. You will pick your stone and use several feet of wire to set the stone. Your ring is sure to get lots of admiring looks!

Steam Casting
Learn this 1000 year old technique using a wax model which is embedded into a plaster material, then melted out using a clay flower pot, a hot plate lined with aluminum foil. The silver is melted and forced into the cavity using steam. This is an inexpensive technique that has a long history. Don't miss out on this amazing class.
Finishing times are approximate depending on class size and skill level of each class.
